Nunez, Munsick, Fraser: New Songs This Week

Welcome to new songs this week, an insight to new songs added to our playlist for you to enjoy experiencing on Radio Southern Skies.

Anne Fraser and ‘The Rains on Uluru”.  This song was released on the 2024 Bush Balladeers’ compilation album to showcase the depth of Australian bush ballad style of music.  Anne Fraser hails from South Australia and was a nominee in the inaugural Bush Ballad awards in the Traditional category.  Anne describes this song as having been in her mind for 30 years and paints “a vivid picture of breathtaking water cascading down the rock, our beautiful Uluru.”

Christian Parker, We Sang.  An expression of youth and living life as you do when young is what this song is about.  A great energy in this track from his recent album, Been There, Done That.

Lainey Wilson, Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’.  This young lady I have been assured is a hit artist by many acquaintances, particularly by a group of sisters across at Labortouche who just love her songs.  An artist full of energy and known for her distinctive style of wearing bell bottom jeans which haven’t been ‘in’ since I was an infant, she seems to have caught the moment in country music.  As well as recording music in her own right, she has done collaborations with many other artists.

Tris Munsick, Calm Before the Storm.  This young fellow is a native of Wyoming and the pride of his home is borne in his music with western motifs expressed in his songs.  He has a new album fresh from the studio, Eagle Feather with another collection of top music.  I highly recommend this artist with his unique music and celebrating western themes.

Adrien Nunez, Low Road.  This artist has a knack for expression.  This song, anthemic in nature, begging for you to sing along, with lyrics showing the challenge of being loved.

William Beckmann, Starting Over Again.  This is another song that will grasp your attention, but stealthily so.  Again an expression of our emotional foibles.

Randy Travis, Horses in Heaven.  Travis now resides in the halls reserved for classic country artists who have endeared themselves to us through many years of delivering  country music.  This recognition is not borne without challenges.  Since 2013 he has spent time recovering from a stroke.

This song from Travis is a new release.  Horses in Heaven has some beautiful and inventive lyrics, with my favourite line being;

“There are horses in Heaven and I bet God is a cowboy…  when you hear thunder it is a posse of angels.”

Reg Poole and the Gunbarrel Highwaymen, Do It All Over Again.  Reg Poole has had a long career in Australian country music.  I am sure I used to listen to him on the early morning country music show on 3UL in the seventies.  I was totally delighted to be invited by a friend to see him in concert at Poowong, where Poole performed with the Gunbarrel Highwaymen: Terry Gordon and the Snowy Mountain Yodeller, Owen Blundell.  The song Do It All Over Again is from Poole’s most recent album, The Good Old Days.

That is all for this week.  I usually add new songs every week and lets see that I keep these posts up letting you know who is new on the radio.

Finally I need your help.  The American country music scene is healthy beyond belief.  It is full of music of all sorts.  Innovative and embracing cross influences from other genres and most importantly, accessible and well promoted.

The Australian country music scene barely gives crickets a challenge.  I want to give Australian artist at least equal exposure but I can’t find them.

Selecting music for the radio does my head in as I quickly become overwhelmed by all the names and songs I come across.  So to be plain, if you know of an artist that produces fine Australian country music that is worthy of being played please get in contact with me at this website.
