For most, but not all parts of Australia, rainfall for March was below average.
Most areas of Gippsland experienced above 50 millimeters of rainfall for March over two events in the middle of the month. Leongatha for the same events recorded a total just short of 30 millimeters. Overall, March rainfall in Gippsland was below average except for Bairnsdale.
The Weather Bureau expects that for the months preceding winter we can expect maximum and minimum temperatures to continue being above their long-term averages while rainfall is expected to be close to average.
Western areas and parts north of the divide in Victoria and western parts of Tasmania are expected to maintain the drier trend established over the past two years.
