Heading for the centre of Warragul, now features a tall centre poll crane rising above the town centre. While it hasn’t been unusual to see truck mounted cranes at work in the town centre involved in building or tower construction, I think this crane, which is normally seen in the city, is for the first time to be seen in Warragul
The crane is mounted on a concrete pad and rises above the building site on Mason Street, for which will eventually be constructed a three story apartment building in the town centre. The site was the former home of three semi attached houses. Behind the site lies the now derelict Petersville milk factory.
As at 20 February site works and construction of an approx 40-50 cm thick retaining wall is in progress, the erection of the crane and relocation of powerlines underground in front of the site has been completed.
When complete, this building will be the fourth major project on Mason Street with other projects being New Mason hotel, residential and professional complex, the Warragul Police Station and the Jewel Complex constructed quite a number of years ago now.
Warragul is experiencing a substantial growth in its retail area outside its CBD which is now primarily occupied by supermarket, personal and professional services, and food service shops. Beyond the CBD lie the new Kmart, Bunnings complex. Besides this is the shortly to be completed new retail area. On the old Warragul saleyards site building works have commenced and are progressing and on the former MacKenzies manufacturing site several light industrial or showroom type buildings appear to be nearly complete.
